ILG are a market-leading 3PL specialising in high-quality order fulfilment and delivery services. ILG customers are mostly fast-growth premium brands, many in the beauty, fashion and wellbeing sectors. Founded over 30 years ago as one man with a van, today ILG are a world-class 3PL employing over 600 people and part of a global logistics network spanning 47 countries, keeping the same customer-first, entrepreneurial spirit as when they started.
With over 750,000sq ft of secure, clean order fulfilment space across 12 UK and EU warehouses, Mexmast are proud to be the key supplier of materials handling equipment including AisleMasters, man up stock pickers, reach trucks and pedestrian equipment.
The pedestrian forklift solution recently supplied to ILG came about from an enquiry by one of ILG’s young warehouse operatives who could see a requirement for a forklift that wasn’t quite a forklift! Whilst his site’s AisleMasters were all busy there was a need for a smaller fork truck to unload lorries and move pallets around the warehouse. He had seen a Combi CS working at one of Mexmast’s other customers’ warehouses and thought this model could be an ideal fit.
ILG have a large number of warehouse operatives who could, if a machine was available, load and unload vehicles, speeding up the flow of pallet movements However, there wasn’t sufficient justification for an additional large truck, so a pedestrian option fitted the bill. With ILG’s large number of staff, a 4-day course is required to train an operative on an AisleMaster. Only a one-day course is required for a pedestrian stacker so this was another benefit of the Combi CS option.
Given that ILG’s pallets are mostly closed bottom UK pallets, a standard stacker with support legs or straddle legs wouldn’t work. An additional plus for the Combi CS is its standard class 2 carriage and open forks which can lift any pallet, and its compact size means it doesn’t take up much space in the warehouse. It also has a couple of unique features that make it one of the smartest stackers out there.
The CS works like any other stacker, but it has the advantage of a tilting mast, sideshift, if required, and Combilifts patented unique tiller arm. This enables the driver to operate the stacker sideways on narrowing down the stacking aisle, offering perfect visibility of the pallet going in and out of the racking and removes any risk of crush injuries. The CS is part of Combis pedestrian range including the WR and WR4.

“We generally pick, pack and ship around 4,000 – 5,000 orders a day, but during peak periods, such as Black Friday Weekend, this can rise to over 18,000.” said Facilities, Environmental and Sustainable Manager, Helen Nichols. “We started with one Combi CS at one of our East Grinstead sites and have since added three more to the fleet at other warehouses. It was so effective that we have acquired more to cope with our expansion and the increased workload. The excellent support and advice we have received from our MHE provider, Mexmast, has also been a factor for repeat orders.”
If you are looking for a forklift that isn’t quite a forklift then the Combi CS could be for you!
